This position is located in the Indian Health Service at the Cheyenne River Service Unit (CRSU) in the Medical Staff Department. The purpose of this position is to manage, supervise, coordinate and evaluate the Emergency Room (ER) Department. The incumbent plans, develops, coordinates, and evaluates a comprehensive ER department for the CRSU. The goas is to refine and strengthen the ER to respond to the emergent needs of the community. The incumbent will report to the Clinical Director of the Medical Department.

The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. Responsibilities

Be responsible for supervisory duties to staff employees.Triage, examine, diagnose, resuscitate, stabilize, treat or direct a course of treatment for a wide range of emergent patients from the pediatric to the geriatric patient; from seriously ill to the severely traumatized.Examine patient and order appropriate tests to evaluate patient's chief, and related complaints; ascertains medical needs and initiates action to provide needed services.Respond to and provide support to in-house cardiopulmonary arrests (echo-medic) and emergency response systems (ERS).Prepare guidance, assistance, training, and instructions to subordinates for technical and administrative matters.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Degree - Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country.

Licensure - Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the U.S. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector.

Physicians must meet the following requirements for the GP-15 grade level and above.

GP-15 Grade Level: *(5) years of residency training in Emergency Medicine OR have equivalent training and work experience in Emergency Medicine that demonstrates the ability to provide patient care of an extremely difficult and responsible level in an emergency room setting. Typically completion of full formal residency training (at least 3 years) required by specialty board or progressive experience equivalent in breadth and intensity. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
