Intern will assist the GE Ventures Catalyst team in “sensing” future scientific / technological breakthroughs, creating communities, algorithms to prioritize them, and help the team to take them through a structured process with multiple internal and external stakeholders to develop new markets. The associate will also help with the market, Intellectual property deep dives and competitive analysis.
The Intern will assist the GE Ventures Catalyst team on scientific breakthrough “hunting”, analysis of these ideas and support the ultimate decision and execution of them as funded programs. This role is intended to be part-time during the 2016-2017 school year.
Help forming a sensing network for discoveries via a structured & “automated” process.
Help implementing a structure process and assessing the ideas prioritized.
Aid with the organization and internal and external expert meetings & presentations.
Assess the investment landscape for a given sector of healthcare. This includes determining the performance parameters for products addressing the sector, market size, technology trends, competitive landscape, and investment opportunities
Carry out secondary research and interview key opinion leaders to gather a well-informed perspective on the segment
Support development of businesses models via targeted primary and secondary research.
Prepare presentations for Catalyst and its stakeholders, e.g. senior GE executives as needed.
Bachelor's degree in science with business mindset or in business with scientific curiosity.
Minimum 2 years of work experience in academic projects and/or commercialization of technology or startup portfolio management
Currently pursuing an basic science, engineering, business, medical degree, doctoral or a relevant degree
Demonstrated ability to conduct market analysis and competitive landscaping with the ability to translate the results into effective communication tools (presentations, pitches)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to work on site at least one day each week (on average) for GE Ventures during the school year

Experience in the healthcare, energy or software industry is strongly desired
MBA or other graduate degree, specifically an advanced degree in medicine, computer science or natural sciences is preferred
Experience in scientific studies and/or marketing is preferred
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter
Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
