Job Description - PIPELAYER Position OverviewLays pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Perform tasks involving physical labor at building, highway, and heavy construction projects, tunnel and shaft excavations, and demolition sites. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove asbestos, lead, and other hazardous waste materials. May assist other craft workers.1.0 BASIC FUNCTIONS 1.1 Lays pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains 1.2 Operate a variety of equipment, including pavement breakers; jackhammers; earth tampers; concrete, mortar, and plaster mixers; electric and hydraulic boring machines; torches; small mechanical hoists; laser beam equipment; and surveying and measuring equipment.1.3 Checks slopes for conformation to requirements, using levels or lasers.1.4 Cover pipes with earth or other materials.1.5 Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement or glue.1.6 Cut pipes to required lengths.1.7 Install and repair sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.1.8 Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels.1.9 Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.1.10 Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints, and coordinating layouts withsupervisors.1.11 Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.1.12 Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools. 2.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP 2.1 Pipe Layers are under the direct control of the Project Superintendent of his jobsite. 3.0 JOB REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Educational Requirements 3.1.1. Required: High School, Diploma or G.E.D. 3.2 Experience Requirements 3.2.1 Minimum 1 yearsand#39; experience in construction/site development.3.2.2 Must have a journeyman pipe layerand#39;s license or be in the process of obtaining one. 3.3 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 3.3.1 Mathematical abilities at the level required to perform basic measurements and calculations. 3.3.2 Fluency in the English language (read, write and speak)3.3.3 Reasoning ability (logic) use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems 3.3.4 Must be alert and aware of their surroundings3.3.5 Must be active listeners by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.3.3.6 Select and use training methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.3.3.7 Must use the skill of active learning by understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making.3.3.8 Must have the skill to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.3.3.9 Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.3.3.10 Need the ability to keep hand and arm steady while
